Worked up to 70lb dumbell flys last night. Then proceeded to do drop 5 drop sets until i couldnt even lift the 10 pounders. Don't forget time under tension is very important but just as important is taking your muscle to complete failure. Even beyond that, muscle exhaustion is a whole different thing. You can do a set of 3 reps and fail on the 4th rep. Thats not muscle exhaustion. Muscle exhaustion is when you have 5lbs on the bar and you are screaming and crying like a little girl that needs to pee. Make sure you are doing BOTH on your quest for gains.
